Demonstrators

Two demonstrators made from reused building components will be created on the campus of Ruhr University Bochum. They will evolve continuously in line with research progress and the requirements of the subprojects—for example through the integration of new materials, sensors, and digital technologies such as augmented reality. The scientific demonstrator, with dimensions of 2 m × 5 m, will be supplemented with new components that are intentionally damaged in order to investigate material behavior. It serves as a full-scale large laboratory for short- and long-term investigations, such as load tests, degradation monitoring, and settlement and displacement measurements. Over the course of the research project, the scientific demonstrator will be gradually expanded in complexity and size. The public demonstrator is intended to make the research of the Collaborative Research Centre visible, understandable, and tangible to the general public. For this purpose, a freely accessible, laterally open exhibition space with dimensions of approximately 3 m × 5 m × 2 m will be realized on the RUB campus using existing components. Here, visitors can experience interactive presentations that encourage reflection and active participation.
