From September 9 to 11, 2026, the 16th International fib PhD Symposium took place at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna (BOKU). Topics included sustainability, durability, reliability, reinforcement, AI, numerical modeling, and digital tools—all in the context of concrete structures.

Marwin Dollendorf and Anna-Lena Schürmann presented their paper “Workflow for evaluation of construction kits for element extraction for reuse from cast-in-place concrete structures” during the “Sustainability and Circularity” session. In the same session, Hendrik Zielonka presented on the topic “Modular reuse of RC elements: determination of load-bearing capacities and structural design exemplified on a frame structure.”
In the session “AI and Knowledge-Based Modeling,” Swantje Pieplow provided insights into the work of Subproject A 03 on the topic “Automated characterization of subsequently cut surfaces of reused RC elements using optical 3D scans.”
The event offered doctoral students of the CRC 1683 the opportunity to present their current research findings to an international audience of experts and to discuss them with experts from academia and industry.
