Robot IIBra supports research on component testing

The Chair of Computing in Engineering at Ruhr University Bochum has a new employee: the humanoid robot IIBra.

It is being used in the CRC 1683 and will support the investigation of existing structures in the Pre-Demolition Audit in the future.
IIBra is capable of targeting specific components and positioning testing equipment precisely, for example for low-impact material testing with a rebound hammer. This allows important information about properties such as the compressive strength of concrete to be obtained.

In the long term, robotic systems should be able to systematically record buildings and automatically examine components. In combination with sensor-based data acquisition and AI-supported evaluation, this opens up new possibilities for objective and reproducible condition assessment of structures – an important basis for identifying the reuse potential of components at an early stage.
